Natural is the best?
I hear that a lot. Maybe, a bit too much. To most of us, our looks play an important role. It has a crucial part in portraying our personality. There's no way anyone would buy a rotton-looking apple. Yet Some of us don't see it that way. The general population call it First Impression.
All of us started out differently. Specifically, I mean physically different. We're all unique. And its this difference that makes it so much harder to present ourselves in a way where we're comfortable with our natural looks but also at the same time having these natural looks fulfill the expectations of society .
Picture yourself standing in front of a series of new phones lined up on the table. You don't know the details of the phones, but you're given a chance to pick one to be yours. The catch is, you cannot touch or fiddle with any phone. So how do you decide?
In the different phases of our journey, when we meet new people, often, we look at them as the series of phones. We don't know who they are or their back ground But one thing we do notice is the way they present themselves. From the smallest detail like the symmetrical positioning of buttons to the obvious ones like the glassy finishing of the phone. It does shows a lot on the effort or workmanship of the phone. Doesn't that give a good indicator of the kind of person he or she may be?
That goes to show that looks play an important role in how you want people to assume things about you. Because no matter how hard you try, You have no rights in stopping anyone from judging.
On the flip side of the coin, I hear things like " Don't put make up la. Natural is the best." " Don't style your hair la. Natural is the best."
The question is. "Does it really matter?"
A lot of people change the way they look not because they didn't like their natural look, nor is it because they felt that they're not good looking enough, its purely because their new look is how they want to showcase their personality and their style. Nothing to do with being insecure. And whether is it Natural or not. IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER.
Because First Impression isn't solely about looks. Factors like gestures, body language are the small things that people do look out for. And they judge you based on that too. True enough that the type of a person he/she may be cannot be determined by his/her outlook, But before anyone would want to take another step in finding out, his/her First impression has destroyed it.
So if you ask, Natural is the best? Well maybe. But why not don't take a shower?
